I had been told about some beautiful beaches in Andoni in Rivers State, and I thought it was a travesty that I didn’t even know that they existed. There was even a small resort at one end of the beach at some point in the past that I had never heard of.
Now how do I sugarcoat the story of my journey to the beach in Ikuru Town? Let’s just say I don’t think anybody who is not from Andoni (and maybe Opobo) will be undertaking this journey unless for a wedding or a burial
The beach itself was as described in the brochure; it almost felt like a continuation of the beach in Ibeno (I had to ask a fisherman if both beaches were connected just to be sure). There is a small fishing port at the beach with nice huts built with palm fronds. I was also told that on really clear days, it is possible to see the mountains in Cameroon from the beach.
If you plan on visiting, the 3rd of January should be the best time as there is a New Year’s event that takes place at the beach on that day; unless of course you would like the whole beach to yourself then you can visit on any other weekend.
Hope you enjoy the photos.
