I went to Obudu again hoping to finally make use of the cable car and get my shot of its amazing hairpins. Sadly, this did not happen. The cable car wasn’t working… again. I got 3 different stories from the staff of the resort on why the cable cars were out of service. I was so pissed that I promised never to go back there.
As I already have a blog post from July last year here on my previous visit, I’ll try not to rehash that post and just focus on what is new; what I noticed has changed and what was different about this second trip.
I went with two friends this time, unlike the last trip which I did solo. We tried two different routes: Port Harcourt – Ugep – Ikom – Obudu and Obudu – Abakiliki – Port Harcourt for both legs of the journey. Although we made it to Obudu before nightfall, the trip back was much shorter at 7 hours on the road. There are still no flights to Obudu unless you are a VIP. Some travel agencies might also offer packages that include a return flight from Calabar to Obudu.
We stayed at Gramic Hotel in Obudu again, not the mountain resort more than an hour away. The hotel now has meals you can order; most of what we had was either N1000 or less. The cheapo restaurant in my last post no longer exists and the restaurant on the ranch now offers all you can eat buffets for N3000.
There is a GTBank ATM on the ranch that actually works. There’s also another ATM at the resort’s reception, I’m not sure if it was working. There is still no Airtel reception on the ranch and the Airtel reception at the hotel in Obudu was also patchy.
We took part in an official tour of the resort for N1000. This tour only visits the free spots, not the spots that require a fee to gain entry.
If you are going because of the cable cars, MAKE SURE YOU CONFIRM FROM THE RESORT THAT THE CABLE CARS ARE IN SERVICE AND THAT THE WATER PARK IS OPEN.
The Afi Wildlife Sanctuary is off the Ikom – Obudu route that passes through Boki instead of Ogoja. You might want to go through their website to see if you can kill two birds with one stone.
Hi Enefaa…your post is very interesting. Thank you for the good work. Pls i plan to visit the ranch and particularly becouse of the cable car. Did you have contact i can call to check if the cable car is now working?
Thank you. Glad you found it helpful.
Have you tried this number (0803 550 6257) from the info they have on Google. I think it worked for me the first time I visited.
Please let us know if you get through to them.
Hello. I plan to visit in December with a couple of friends. Could you pls provide the number for the Gramic Hotel? I can’t find anything on them online. Thanks
Used to have the number for the manager but I sadly can’t find it. Just checked the receipts and there’s no phone number on them either. Will see if I can get it from someone else tomorrow.
